I've been spending some time chatting with folks on Twitter and have gotten acquainted with Trevor Holewinski. He runs a pretty cool poker blog called Pokerplasm. Trevor is also an instrumental force in the Twitter Poker Tour, a weekly 'home' game played online at Poker Stars and Full Tilt.

Recently, Trevor sat down with me and gave me a great interview at Tourneyblog. I'm happy to share it here.

Hey everyone, if you've got some time tonight - there's a special charity event at Full Tilt. Erick Lindgren is hosting. It's only $5 + 5 and benefits the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society.

I can't wait to play. I signed on before I found out my father-in-law has lymphoma. He was dx'ed just this week. Although we have high hopes he'll be fine, this cause is even more special to me now.

It's a great cause and a slew of full tilt's best and brightest have already put in their buy-ins including Matt Vengrin, Allen Cunningham and more...

Giving Thanks...for poker

Even if you're not in the US this week, why not think about what you're most thankful for? I am very thankful for poker. Lately, I've been sick with some lung problems and poker has helped keep my mind off the pain and the illness. It has kept me focused on something else. That has been a blessing of sorts. Poker, for me, is more than a game. It's therapy.

Happy thanksgiving everyone, even if you don't technically celebrate the US holiday of over-eating turkey and carbohydrates. Hope to see you at the tables. I'm mostly at Full Tilt these days, using my online handle there (panndyra).

Bubble Boy

in Bubble Play
Well, in the internet you can find a lot of pages and blogs that talk about how to play in bubble. And what is the bubble? Is the point on a tournament where the next player eliminated will leave with empty hands and all others players will cash in some money.

Well, I play the bubble very aggressive (all in almost all hands) at this stage of the tournament, no matter if I have a few chips (10BB) or a lot (chipleader).
Because if I have a few chips the blinds will eat me and I will be the Bubble Boy without seeing any action. Otherwise, to have a lot of chips give me a greater presence on the table and many will fold with hands that may be they were played in another situation by their fear of leaving empty-handed.

This way you steal the blinds, which for the time of the bubble are high.

in Life & The Art of Poker

When I get something into my head, I find it really hard to think about anything else. Ask yourself can you really multi-task all day long? There are times where I find it hard to concentrate and it's effecting my life and game play.

The beauty of poker is that no matter how greedy people get, though, it still maintains its artistic and psychological values. It’s a beautiful game and you have to use your memory. Your soul comes into play and you have to live well away from the table. If you have no empathy and are shrouded in darkness, then you’ll never win.

- Did you notice the straight on the turn?
- The flush on the river?
- The high pocket pair pre flop?
- Do you know how to receive, calculate and transmit information during game play?

Every card in life counts, so play your card well. As I play more and more Omaha games I find new skills that will surely help my game. I can not get over the fact that I am always discovering new ways to improve my life/game.

I ask myself how to be more creative in life, something that comes natural to my dear brother, my lovely sister and me. I ask can you imagine shapes and colors without them actually being there? Or do you have to see to believe.

Life is a masterpiece and it's poker I play.

Imitation Is The 1st Step 2 Creation

Simply put ... Spot a particular pro poker player style of play that appeals to you most ... read his literature and imitate his style. You can also add some personal touches to it to make it your own. Been seeing good results since I started using this exercise.

The more I learn about poker, the more insight I get about the relation between luck and skill involved in the game. As my friend Ari put it, luck is definetely involved in the game but the skill part is to put yourself in situations where luck has a minimum say on the outcome of your battle.

As I sit and watch the Omen II and this lady get her eyes get gouged out by a crow, I realize how much I love this holiday. The sheer destructive nature of the holiday. The deep darkness of it all. The devastation of the season. Reminds me of the camp and gore that ushers in the goodness.  It is the evil 'cleansing' that we must do to bring out the goodness in ourselves. I'm ready to get evil for a few more days...time to play so NLHE.

BTW...nice batman costume, Poker Spokesman! See y'all Saturday if I'm still lucid :)

in Bad Beat Jackpot

Bad Beats happen to each and everybody but at PokerNordica you can get a part of a very big Bad Beat Jackpot when you get one of those Bad Beats.

In any Texas Hold'em game, you will be looking to maximise your value when you pick up four of a kind. The chance to go all-in is automatic, but what happens if your opponent is holding higher four of a kind, or even a Straight Flush?

These are the worst Bad Beats, and usually result in thousands of chips being passed over the table.

The Bad Beat Jackpot at PokerNordica has now increased to more than an amazing $550.000 or half a million dollars!

This means that the looser of the hand will take home more than an amazing $175.000. Imagine what you could do with so much money.

My Poker Academy is back again with another awesome event, the Halloween Special Bounty Tournament on Poker Nordica. This time we have increased the bounty to a $100 just for eliminating the Poker Spokesman.

The Poker Academy Halloween Special Tournament is a No Limit Texas Hold'em freezeout tournament with $25.00 + $2.50 buy-in, there will be no re-buys and no add-on this time.

Please note that Poker Nordica is a USA Friendly Poker Room.

The last time we asked you to eliminate the Poker Spokesman there seemed to be a glitch in the Matrix and our poor friend had to sit out.

This time we need to get him.

Come play in one of our community events, you won't regret it.

See you next Saturday.

Had a fun moment tonight goofing around.

in General Poker

So tonight I was goofing around on some play money tables.  I'm tired and in no mental state to play for real money

Anyway, I've been running fairly badly.  But I keep playing my standard game -- which tends to have some variance but I'm fine with that.  We're playing a short-handed table and some people leave and suddenly it's me and this other guy head's up.

Heads up is one of my favorite ways to play any sort of poker.  It's also one where I am pretty good and knowing where I am at in NL Hold'em.  Even against weak passive players.  So I start hammering on this guy.  Hand after hand, if I have anything I get the most for it.  If he puts up any real resistance or my hand is super-marginal, I keep it small or get out of the way.  In about 30 hands, I triple through him and don't have any plans to stop.

He comments, "Wow, you're getting better fast."   Laughing

I told him it was just luck.  Explaining that I had a good idea of what I was doing wouldn't have helped the situation.  Eventually more players joined the table and my cards had warmed up a little.  He left shortly after.  But I got a big kick out of his comment about me learning fast.

I guess it was like I had suddenly gained years and years worth of experience.  lmao
