The 3rd edition of the Malta Poker Showdown took place last Sunday 6th June at Casino di Venezia. The buy-in for the event was €150+15 and saw 35 players participating, a constant increment in the number of players from the first to the third event.

The total prize pool summed up to €5250 while the tournament saw it start at 16:30 and finished almost at 02:30. It was a hard fought battle with players having more time to fight it out with the longer blinds. Early departures from the competition were those of Carmelo Vella, Evgeniy Vlorov and Markus Svennerstal who had placed 4th in the last Showdown.

In the end it was a battle on the final table between Mark Attard, Marco Curmi, Raymond Bonnici, M.T Attard, Andrew Camilleri, Neill Simpson, Gaetano Caruana, Thomas Harvey and Nicolas Jouannic. Mark Attard who came in short stacked on the final table, managed to do an impressive comeback by eliminating 6 players and at a certain point finishing even as chipleader. Mark was going to make another victim when he called all-in the raise made from Neill Simpson who called in as well. Simpson showed A 10 while Attard had AK in hand. Attard had the outright advantage until on the turn the dealer showed a 10 to give a pair to Simpson. It was then heads up between Simpson and Ray Bonnici with the latter calling all in with K3 and Simpson calling back with 44. Bonnici managed to get a pair of 3s but it was not enough to beat Simpson’s pair of 4s.

Prizes were distributed as following:
1.    Neill Simpson        2100
2.    Ray Bonnici        1155
3.    Mark Attard        945
4.    Andrew Camilleri        630
5.    Marthese Attard        420

The next Malta Poker Showdown is scheduled for the 27th of June which will be preceded by the Venice Poker League Final at 12pm. Next main event at Casino di Venezia will be Fiches & Chips 100+10 which will take place on Saturday 19th June at 8pm.
